Improve your pronunciation by practicing the “I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop” tongue twister.

Hi, I’m Joel. In this video,

I’m going to go over another tongue twister to help you improve your English
pronunciation and fluency.

This is another classic. So, as always with tongue twisters, first you need to do
it slowly, and gradually increase the speed as long as you’re not making mistakes.
All right, so here it is:
I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop.

Where she sits she shines, and where she shines she sits.

Okay, now let’s do it a little bit faster.

I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop.

Where she sits she shines, and where she shines she sits.

Now, this one’s hard, even for native speakers. So, I’ll go a little bit faster.

I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop. Where she sits she shines, and where she shines she sits.

Because of all of these “S-H’s” here, the tendency is to want to say the “S-H” for the last word, for “sits.”

So, you have to always be aware of that.

That’s a very common mistake, to do the “sh” the “S-H” sound, instead of “sits.”

Okay, again:
I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop. Where she sits she shines, and where she shines she sits.

Okay, I’ll do one more:
I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop. Where she sits she shines, and where she shines she sits.

So you see, even for me it’s a little bit difficult. These are made for native speakers.

So, if you can get use to doing these and do them well,

you’re going to have a great advantage over other people that are learning English.

And you may even say them better than a lot of native speakers as well.

So, just keep practicing this one. Try to do it for five minutes a day, whatever you have time for.

And then after a couple of weeks, it should be second nature to you.

It should be very easy. Alright, so, thanks for watching and good luck practicing your English.

I hoped you liked the video.
