‘Suit’ VS ‘Suite’
Learn the correct pronunciation of ‘suit’ and ‘suite’ and the different meanings of these words.
Not sure how to write for this one?
Hi, I’m Joel. In this video, I’m going to talk about the words “suit” and “suite”
and how they’re different and how they’re pronounced differently.
So, let’s get started.
First, let’s talk about suit, S-U- I-T.
Now as a noun, a suit is a very formal type of clothing
that you would wear to a wedding or to a special occasion.
And if you work in the business world, you may wear it to work every day.
And it can also be used as a verb. For example,
“This man does not suit our requirements.”
Meaning that he does not really fit our requirements,
he is not a good match for our requirements.
And now, let’s move on to the second word, suite, S-U- I-T- E.
So, it’s spelled the same as suit, but it has an “e” at the end.
However, the pronunciation is completely different.
It’s pronounced just like the other word “sweet,” S-W- E-E- T.
Which refers to something that has a lot of sugar.
It tastes sweet.
So, this word suite, S-U- I-T- E usually refers to a set of rooms.
You could have a suite in a building, and you can work in a suite.
Or you could rent a suite, like an apartment or a hotel suite as well.
So the point is, it’s not just one room, but it’s a series of rooms.
Probably with a living area,
maybe even a small kitchen and a bedroom and so on.
So, don’t get these two words confused. Many students say them wrong.
They will pronounce “suit “like the clothing, they’ll pronounce that “sweet” or
they will pronounce the “suite” meaning the rooms, they’ll pronounce that like “suit.”
So, just make sure you got the pronunciation down correctly.
All right, I hope that this was helpful and that you have a wonderful day.
I hoped you liked the video.
